Who will speak on

Dr. Michie I. Hunt, the author of "Changing Patterns in Pharmaceutical Innovation," (accessible at www.nihcm.org) will give a talk on recent trends in new drug technology. She will begin with a brief overview of the major pieces of legislation that Congress enacted over the past two decades to promote development of new pharmaceuticals. She will also provide perspective on why spending on new drugs has emerged as such a critical issue for payers, insurers and consumers.

Against this background, she will discuss the questions addressed by "Changing Patterns," the methodological approaches used to answer them, and the key findings that emerged from the study about the quality of recent innovation and the contribution of different types of new medicines to the rise in drug spending. Finally, she will identify some of the questions and issues raised by these findings, and entertain questions from the floor.

A cocktail hour (Cash Bar) will begin at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6:30 PM. The registration fee for University Faculty and Students is $35, and $45 ($50 for onsite registration) for all other attendees, including tax and gratuities. Dinner selections are: baked filet of flounder, prime rib of beef, and grilled vegatable medley with herb risotta. Checks (made out to the DMDG) or Cash only. Credit cards cannot be accepted.
